Boosting car safety for children

A simple bump can be dangerous for a child traveling without a car seat.

Inspired by the Wheel Well Campaign, the Local Drug Action Committee with the Eldorado Park Police Station has embarked on a similar operation.

For the safety of children, car seats will be collected for parents who cannot afford one for their children.

“The lives of children are endangered when parents don’t take safety measures while traveling in a vehicle. We expect every parent to make sure their child is protected by using a car seat,” Captain Phillemon Khorombi said.

LDAC’s Cheryl Pillay says they are aware that car seats are costly, hence the road safety campaign.

“I’ve seen children losing their lives because they were seated on a lap in a car,” Pillay said.

She said every aspect of children’s safety is addressed, the campaign is one of many that LDAC has taken on.

They are calling on residents to drop off unused car seats.

Pillay can be reached on 061 410 1734.
