Police minister visits Luke’s parents
Police minister vows to reduce crimes against the elderly and children.
The police ministry has ordered the special task team investigating the death of Taegrin Morris to also investigate the shooting of three-year-old Luke Tibbetts, who was critically wounded during a shooting in Westbury on Saturday.
“The case is being handled by the team that includes members of different police station,” said police minister Nkosinathi Nhleko during a visit to the Tibbetts family yesterday.
Nhleko has vowed that crimes against the elderly and children will not be tolerated and urged residents to bring any information to the police.
Meanwhile, the DA has claimed the case may have been compromised by police ‘incompetence’
“According to local information, police forensic experts only arrived on the scene of the shooting three days after the incident to gather evidence,” said DA spokesperson John Moodey.
“We have a crime scene task team that attends to all crime scenes as they happen. We can go back to a crime scene a year after the incident to further our investigation. It remains a crime scene until we have all our facts together,” said Nhleko.
Luke remains on life support after he was hit in the head by a stray bullet while sitting on his mom’s lap in the back seat of a vehicle driving near the intersection of Steytler Road last weekend.
