Trinity High wins Kay Motsepe provincial finals

After winning the provincials, Trinity High’s manager, Patrick Maubane hopes for best results in the upcoming Kay Motsepe Cup national finals.

Holy Trinity High School became the champions of the Gauteng Sanlam Kay Motsepe Schools Cup after thrashing Pimville-based Thaba Jabula Secondary School 3-0 in the provincial finals of this competition.

The win saw Trinity pocketing a R100 000 handsome cheque and has qualified for the national finals of this lucrative schools soccer showpiece set to take place on October 5 to 9.

Despite losing, the Pimville outfit will join Trinity in the national finals as well after becoming the provincial runners-up and stand a chance of winning the R1 million overall price money which will be awarded to the national champion.

One of the tournament rules says teams that play in each provincial final will go on to play at the national finals.

The winning team will spend the money on upgrading the school.

Trinity’s manager, Patrick Maubane said they know that the nationals are going to be tough and plan on sticking to the same game plan as the provincials, taking each game as it comes.

The school knocked out the defending champions, Clapham 1-0  during the provincial games and according to Maubane, beating the defending champions means that the other schools at the national finals will be focusing on them.

“We need to up our game and make sure that we train hard everyday,” said Maubane.

He singled out his centre back, Makhwemkodwa Ntlanyana as a key player for the team and will be relying on him to help the team win.

The player was spotted by the Supersport Academy scouts in 2012 and successfully passed trials and has been part of the Academy ever since.

Jabula on the other hand is boosted by three players from Kaizer Chiefs Academy and will be taking part in the national finals.
