SAPO to put an end to strike
SAPO in the process of implementing dismissal processes to some casual and part-time employees.

South African Post Office (SAPO) employees have been participating in various unprotected strikes since the beginning of the year.
This industrial action has caused interruptions in the office’s sorting and distribution processes resulting in delays in postal and parcel deliveries.
According to a press release issued by SAPO, the strikes have been characterised by intimidation and violence: the blocking of workplaces, assaults on employees and damage to property.
This has resulted in the closure of some post offices and mail delivery depots in an effort to ensure the safety of employees and customers.
SAPO management is said to be engaging in discussions with workers’ unions in an attempt to end the disruptive actions.
The office is currently in the process of implementing dismissal processes to some casual and part-time employees.
Some 2000 casual workers have been given permanent positions as part of their labour strategy to resume operations.
The office’s Chief Operations Officer, Mlu Mathonsi has apologised for the inconvenience caused by the industrial actions.
Plans to mitigate service disruptions are underway and will keep customers updated on any new developments that may affect them.
