Students receive bursaries

Slim gives back to former school.

Jerome ‘Slim’ Du Plooy gave two bursaries to past matriculants from Klipspruit West Secondary School today.

Speaking to the class of 2015, he told pupils to put dating on hold, write down their dreams and believe in themselves.

“People believed in my abilities because I believed in myself,” Slim said.

Delano Togman, recipient of one of the bursaries is grateful for the opportunity to pursue his dreams.

“I don’t think my parents would’ve afforded to send me to study.

“I’m excited, nervous and happy at the same time,” Togman said.

He will be studying Sports Management.

Mpho Tshabalala, another recipient was the top pupil from the school for 2014.

Du Plooy told current matrics to up their game in order to receive a bursary.

He was a pupil at Klipspruit West Secondary School and wanted to give back.

“There weren’t many opportunities when I was at school, people always said that nothing good comes from the school,” said Slim who wanted to change that.

He runs two organisations where he gives back and assists the needy.
