Railway station upgrade
Walls to bridge a gap from Newclare to Bosmont Station.
The condition of the railway has caused many problems for the residents, allowing easy access and escape routes across the lines for perpetrators and also for children who were suicidal to utilise the railway lines for purposes of ending their lives.
This has been an on-going and frustrating challenge.
There was a site inspection with Lusanda Tyebileyo who undertook to go back to PRASA (Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa) and highlight the issues that were raised with her regarding the plight of the people in Ward 82.
Now a couple of months later, June 19, Tyebileyo agreed to meet and discuss a way forward.
They have been mandated to build a wall approximately 2.5m high on either side of the railway line from Bosmont Station down to Newclare Station.
Tyebileyo explained that the wall would unfortunately not extend right up to Westbury Station as the budget would only allow going right up to Newclare Station at this stage.
As discussions went on, an on-going plea that they make a further budget available to address the rest of the railway that is still exposed up until Fuel Road.
“We are aware that the latter part of the railway line still needs to be done at some point in their future plans,” said Tyebileyo
This project is going to benefit the community because it will also decrease robberies at the station.
“I have fought for PRASA to secure the railway lines for over a number of years now.
“I have in the past had site inspections with PRASA Officials and highlighted the plight of the people living along the railway lines but to no effect,” said ward councillor Susan Stewart
