Manamela makes a surprise visit to the Thusong Centre

Deputy Minister in the Presidency, Buti Manamela was not impressed with what he found at home affairs.

Deputy minister in the presidency Buti Manamela made a surprise visit to the Thusong Service Centre in Maponya Mall on Monday afternoon.

Manamela’s visit was part of his department’s mandate which deals with monitoring and evaluating.

Manamela was not impressed by what he found at the Home Affairs offices.

Out of the 32 staff, only two was in the office.

The two people he found in the office said their colleagues had to knock off early because their system was down.

The manager was absent as well.

They said he was attending a meeting in Birchwood.

“A major concern was that the system at Home Affairs was reported to be down.  We found that there was only two people in the office. Just because the system was down does not mean that people had to go home.

“We will be taking this up with the relevant department officials,” said Manamela.

The deputy minister went on to express his concern about long queues at the centre.

Other than these concerns, Manamela was happy about other departments and the work they do in helping the people.

Throughout the tour of the centre, he was shadowed by two girls from Kenilworth Secondary School.

Mampine Nhlapho and Paulette Maselwa are undergoing a mentorship programme with the deputy minister.

The mentorship programme forms part of the youth career expo organised by Manamela’s department.
