The drug abuse door to door campaign that took place in Ward 27 was a success, with more than 80 houses reached.
The Diepkloof Local Drug Action Committee (DLDAC) partnered with City of Johannesburg (CoJ), Social Development, SAPS, CPF, Youth Desk, Victim Empowerment Programme (VEC), Provincial Social Development to conduct a substance abuse door to door campaign in Diepkloof Zone Four.
Zone Four was identified as a crime hot spot. The campaign was meant to;
- Make the community of Diepkloof know about LDAC and its services.
- Recruit more stakeholders for participation and impact.
- Identify people who are affected by the scourge of drug abuse for purpose of intervention and support.
- Educate the community about the risks and reactions of substance abuse to the addict, their families and community.
- Prevent crime and domestic violence.
- 60 volunteers were identified to assist with engaging individuals for questionnaires and any assistant necessary for the efficiency of the campaign.
The campaign targeted 250 households in Ward 27 however only 80 were reached due to time constraints.
Takalani Thangwana of City of Johannesburg said: “We did our best to reach our objectives.”
She said: “We did manage to get young people who are willing to go to rehab.”
