No money, no work at Eldos substation
The latest news regarding Eldorado Park Substation.
Processes at the Eldorado Park substation are being delayed due to allegations of fraudulent activity. The substation is supposed to undergo renovations and a new substation is supposed to be erected.
According to Donemore Torerwa, the site visits which were conducted on July 12 and 13 by City Power and main contractor Setheo Engineering, to various long lead equipment suppliers for Eldorado Park substation upgrade was meant to verify and witness the status of the manufacturing process.
The visit was also conducted to get the actual facts on the ground as far as the project is concerned.

According to Torerwa, most of the equipment is ready for delivery to the site pending site safety clearance due to community issues and the contractor’s unavailability to return to the site to complete the roofing on July 11.
This was due to the protests by the community demanding the 30 percent in every sense of the project, which the City of Johannesburg mayor, Herman Mashaba reportedly promised, but which was not in the main contractor’s contract with City Power.

The report will give a summary of the progress of manufacturing and current status, expected next step and current approximate financial value of work done as per the contract for the Eldorado Park substation.
The report will also give pictorial evidence of the manufactured equipment or material.
Torerwa said, “From the site visits it has been realised that most of the equipment is ready for installation on site and hence the client, City Power is sincerely advised to prioritise the issue of payments to the contractor and also to prioritise the community issues onsite to curb further delays on the project, or installation of equipment since storage and warehousing costs are becoming a serious burden to the suppliers or indirectly to the contractor.”
