Meadowlands Pirates FC supporters branches celebrate 45 years

Pirates supporters gathered at Bapedi Hall in Meadowlands to celebrate the day.

Today marks the 45th anniversary of the establishment of the Pirates FC fans and supporters branches in Soweto.

They gathered at Bapedi Hall in Meadowlands to celebrate the day.
Branches from Soweto and other communities gathered together to share their history, songs and enjoy a few performances.

Soccer legend Killer Mkwanazi from Meadowlands Zone Eight graced the occasion with his presence.

Mkwanazi used to play for Orlando Pirates.

The Meadowlands branch was established in 1973 by Mzambiya who carried the baton until he passed on in 1996. Ronny Mbatha took over and even though it was tough he made sure that the branch kept growing and thriving.
“Being a chairman is not an easy task,” said Mbatha.
