Missing woman’s partner confesses to her murder

"We would like the community to be mindful of this violence against women."

In the middle of Women’s Month, the Mthembu family found themselves mourning the loss of one of their daughters who disappeared mysteriously in 2014.

Nonhlanhla Mthembu was last seen by her family back in April 2014 and her family has tirelessly searched for her since she went missing four years ago.

In a shocking turn of events, her partner, who used to assist the family in their search for her at her home in Diepkloof, recently confessed to murdering her in cold blood.

The Diepkloof police spokesperson, captain Phephi Matlou Mteto said, “We are thankful to the family because they didn’t rest until answers about one of their own came out. The man is currently in police custody after confessing to the young woman’s murder.”

The late Nonhlanhla’s aunt, Sibongile Mthembu, told Diepkloof Urban News how the self-confessed murderer used to visit their home even after her disappearance, pretending to be concerned, knowing very well that he had murdered her.

The word on the streets made the desperate family connect the dots of their daughter’s disappearance. The suspect went around talking about how he had murdered Nonhlanhla in cold blood with the help of his friends.

He allegedly even confessed to his family about killing his girlfriend. Nonhlanhla’s body was found in Kibler Park in December 2014 with wounds and bruises to her head.

A family member who could not rest until his nieces’ whereabouts were determined, is Themba Mthembu who was present when the suspect was apprehended.

He said, “The guy ran as soon as he saw us approaching his house.

“We would like the community to be mindful of this violence against women. We must bring back the spirit of Ubuntu and we must help one another because our daughters are slowly dying in the hands of abusive men.”

Nonhlanhla is survived by three children and her partner is due to appear in court soon to face charges of murder.
