Helping youth build solid careers and businesses

The unemployed youth from Diepkloof knows all about the frustrations of unemployment, and the Department of Social Development understands that being unemployed and inactive can be depressing so they have partnered with Godisang Development to help the youth actively get skills and build sustainable careers and businesses.

Khethiwe Khoza of Godisang Development which went to the Welfare Center in Diepkloof to recruit the youth for A Culinary Course explained that they will be bringing more skill’s development opportunities to the youth in future with the Department of Social Development.

The youth that showed interest in Hospitality were interviewed for recruitment for the course that will help them move a step closer to being professional cooks.

Patronella Kose from the Social Development Office at the Welfare Center explained that unemployment is rife in the community and the skills’ development centre at the Welfare Center started developing other young person’s from scratch and now those young people own cooperatives that make decent revenues.

One youth individual who anticipates changing her life and desires to be a successful and well-known clothes’ designer is Ntokozo Zulu who expressed her desire to learn as much as she can while moving closer to her dreams and desires with the help of the programmes offered at the centre.

Gregory Mathibedi, the programme administrator from Barona Child Care Center went to soak up the information about the skills offered at the centre like baking and sewing, he said, “I feel like this is a great start for the youth because a majority of the youth lacks basic skills, so this is a start to even gaining work experience.”
