23-year-old man arrested in Protea Glen on possession of an unlicensed firearm

The firearm was a 38 sequel revolver and it was loaded with 6 live rounds of ammunition.

A 23 year old man will appear this week in Protea Magistrates Court on a charge of possession of unlicensed firearm.

The police were patrolling yesterday in Protea Glen Ext 12 conducting stop and searches.

They received a tip off from the community about a man driving a white Nissan NP200 bakkie and who was in possession of a firearm.

The police quickly searched for vehicle and they spotted the vehicle next to Big Sky Hardware in Protea Glen Ext 12.

They approached the suspect and searched him.

They found an unlicensed firearm on his possession. The suspect failed to explain to the police where he got the firearm. The suspect was then arrested on the spot.

The firearm was a 38 sequel revolver and it was loaded with 6 live rounds of ammunition.

The Protea Glen Station Commander Colonel Ivy Maota thanked the members of the SAPS for the arrest. She also thanked the community for assisting the police with information.
