The 127 students completed their annual Project Management Program.
On June 17, the Department of Public Safety hosted 127 young men and women at the 2019 Learnership Programme Graduation Ceremony at the Nasrec Exhibition Centre.
The 127 students completed their annual Project Management Program where they underwent three months of theoretical training and nine months practical training at various departments such as Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department and Emergency Management Services to gain workplace experience.
During their 9-month practical training, the students were assessed quarterly to ensure the standard of their performance and that they are receiving the necessary exposure to meet the national qualification framework requirements to obtain their level 2 certificates.

The interns receive a stipend package to assist them with travel and subsistence expenses. Some interns have shown great initiative in their personal financial management which is an important tool later in managing life. Many of the students who were chosen to be part of this programme come from disadvantaged backgrounds and did not have the means to further their academic careers.
Public Safety MMC Michael Sun, in sharing his own personal experience as a young man leaving home in Limpopo coming to Johannesburg, said: “It was difficult for me to leave home, my family and friends and I had to find our feet in a strange city. I experienced challenges, loneliness and rejections but I eventually made it through my studies and began my career.
“The battle to become successful in life is never easy, but never give up, never give in. Don’t allow anyone to determine your worth and who you are just because of where you come from”.
In the spirit of celebrating Youth Month and their achievements, the interns were also treated to spectacular performances by a line-up of local artists such as Kwesta, King Flo, T-Bang, Triple Trouble, DJ Killer, Soweto Most Wanted, Lucas, and Hulela Traditional Dancers hosted by Akhara.
