Pikitup confirms waste collection services restored across Johannesburg
Pikitup says waste collection services have returned to normal across all 12 depot areas following recent protest action, with recovery measures implemented to clear accumulated waste.
Pikitup, the City of Johannesburg’s waste management entity, has confirmed that waste collection services have been restored across all 12 depot areas following the end of recent protest action.
The protest disrupted waste collection in several parts of Johannesburg over the past few weeks, with Randburg, Marlboro and Avalon among the most affected depots.
Pikitup said in a statement that it implemented backlog recovery measures to clear accumulated waste and return services to normal schedules. These measures included additional operational support and weekend collections.

The statement read that engagements with ad hoc service casual workers are continuing, while operations will be closely monitored to address any remaining challenges.
Pikitup apologised to residents and businesses for the disruption and thanked communities for their patience and cooperation during the recovery period.
The restoration of full services is an important step towards stabilising operations and ensuring reliable and sustainable waste collection across Johannesburg, the entity said.
