Chinese embassy gives back to communities in Soweto

Charge d'Affaires of the Embassy of China in South Africa, Li Nan addressed the community in White City and gave them hope.

As global nations are seized with the ongoing arduous fight against the novel coronavirus, Chinese Embassy continues to donate generously to communities in South Africa. One of the communities that recently benefited is White City as the Chinese Embassy in partnership with the Soweto ANC Youth League reached out to donate food packages to those in need at the Ipelegeng Community Centre. This was done while social distancing and other precautions in line with lockdown regulations were observed.

Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy of China in South Africa, Li Nan attended and addressed the community at the event.

“In response to the call of the Chinese Embassy, the Chinese communities and Chinese companies, even Chinese individuals in South Africa have donated medical supplies and distributed food parcels to people who live in difficulties.

“Those efforts fully demonstrate that the Chinese people stand firmly with the South African people in times of adversity,” said Li Nan.

“South Africa has downgraded the lockdown to level 3, and many of our brothers and sisters in Soweto will be back to work. I hope that all of you could take appropriate measures to protect yourselves and keep healthy.

“We also hope that the ANC Youth League in Soweto would continue to play an exemplary role as a pioneer and make more contributions to the development of Soweto.

Social distancing was observed.

“Solidarity and cooperation are the most powerful weapon for the international community to defeat COVID-19. We are firmly confident that, with the joint efforts of China, South Africa and other parties, we will eventually prevail over the pandemic and win the final victory,” he added.

Despite the arduous task of fighting the pandemic at home, China has provided strong assistance and support to South Africa and other African countries.

Recipients of the parcels showed so much appreciation.
