Communities advised to protect Eskom boxes in their area
Make use of the Eskom hotline to report illegal connections, cable theft, and any illegal activities happening in the distribution boxes.
Many communities suffer power outages due to illegal connections and tempering with the service providers’ equipment. A resident of Pimville Zone 7 has come up with a new strategy to meet Eskom halfway by protecting their facilities from being vandalised
Alfred Ngwira said seeing that the service providers boxes are being vandalized by thugs results in community members suffering. he added that he wants the community to know that it is high time they start protecting the Eskom boxes in their area to avoid power complications.
According to Ngwira it seems like these thugs always target for boxes that are not in the public’s eye, not on main roads where they can come to vandalise and steal during the night knowing that they won’t be seen by anyone.

“If we do not assist Eskom in protecting these boxes it will results in us suffering, not having electricity due to stolen circuit breakers or copper wires being cut. We can have our boxes welded,” he said.
He said they would like to raise awareness in their community so that people may know what is happening around them.
Ngwira urged residents of Pimville to be the watchdogs of their facilities and to report any suspicious event happening in any box. he emphasised that people should report anybody who is not a member of or an employee of Eskom who might be spotted tampering with the boxes during the day or night.
Ngwira pleaded with the residents to make use of the Eskom hotline to report illegal connections, cable theft, and any illegal activities happening in the distribution boxes. To report people can call 08600 37566 (ESKOM) or SMS Crime Line on 32211.
