Day of reckoning for Soweto Fabulous in Jabavu
: A win will mean progress for Fabulous but a loss could spell signs for a potential disaster season.
With a win in the first game, and loss in the second, Soweto Fabulous’s third game of the season may be their day of reckoning.
The Sowetan powerhouse is considered a heavy hitter in the Gauteng Sasol Women’s League. Soweto Fabulous finished fourth in 2019 and was sitting in 1st place when the 2020 season was abandoned. This season, they kicked off their campaign with an emphatic 4 -1 win over Luso Africa, before being at the receiving end of the same scoreline against Diepkloof Ladies in their second outing. Despite the loss, team Captain, Thando Dlamini said it was too early to press the panic button.
“The season is still long,” she told Soweto Urban.
“Pressure is pressure and we are used to pressure. We know the expectations over us and more importantly, we know ourselves and we can still turn it around. It’s only been two games, it’s not over until it’s over,” Dlamini said.

Soweto Fabulous will host bottom-placed Lusaka Ladies at the Jabavu Stadium on Sunday. A win will mean progress for Fabulous but a loss could spell signs for a potential disaster season – certainly a cause for concern for Fabulous’s high ambitions.
“For us, the goal remains the same: to win the league. It’s a long season ahead and I think it’s best when you can see your flaws at the start. We’ll go back and work on those in the training ground,” Dlamini said shortly after the defeat to Diepkloof Ladies.
While Dlamini will be tasked with helping her side keep as many clean sheets as possible in defence, Fabulous will pin its hopes on players like Mpho Motsatse and Ayesha Moosa to make the difference up front.
Lusaka has not won a match this season and has conceded a league-high 10 goals. The match is expected to kick off at 13h00.
