Police conduct random search at Protea Secondary

The Youth Crime Prevention Desk (YCPD) joined hands with the CPF and Protea SAPS for a school search at Protea Glen Secondary School number two in Glen Ridge last Thursday.

The team believes that this is one of the most effective ways to promote safety in schools and the community at large.

Learners were searched to see if they were in possession of illegal items or anything that is not allowed in the school premises. The school search was accompanied by motivational talks about self-love and bullying.

The school search was graced by the presence of members from SANCA Soweto and Lifeline.

“We believe that it is important to once in a while make school visits, especially with cases that are happening at schools such as having a learner or an educator killed within the school premises. By conducting these searches, we are trying to prevent such ordeals from taking place,” said Moses Seaga from the YCPD.

“Our goal is to eradicate such acts and make sure that there are no dangerous weapons within the school premises.”

During the motivational talks, the interaction between learners and speakers were informative as youngsters learnt of procedures and possibilities that were previously unknown to them.

This also created an open platform for learners to talk about the challenges they encounter with their peers, how to describe bullying, what measures to take when one is bullied and what is it that they can do to create a great atmosphere in the school.

Learners came to a mutual agreement that love and respect for one another is of importance and will help build a great relationship and a safe environment for them all.

The school searches are done twice a week in different schools.
