Celebrating International Mother Language Day at Naturena Primary
Naturena Primary School and libraries across the City unite to celebrate International Mother Language Day, promoting cross-cultural appreciation and understanding.
Grade Three learners along with teachers and librarians from Naturena Library celebrated International Mother Language Day (IMLD) through storytelling at Naturena Primary School, on February 21.
The learners enjoyed an interactive reading session and explored thrilling storybooks in all 11 official South African languages.

The session celebrated the richness of languages and cultures, helping students discover how language has the power to unite people, form identities, and break down cultural barriers.
One of the learners, Anele Ndala, shared her excitement expressing her love for language and stories.
“I loved listening to stories in different languages. It made me feel proud of my language and curious about others.”

The celebration was not limited to Naturena Primary School. Libraries across the city also participated in IMLD, bringing communities together through books and storytelling.
