27 stolen vehicles recovered across Gauteng

Police arrest 81 suspects, recover stolen vehicles and firearms and disrupt drug trade in province.

The Rapid Response Services (RRS) apprehended 81 suspects and recovered 27 cars and one firearm throughout Gauteng between February 21 and 27.

The RSS include personnel from the Highway Patrol, Flying Squad and K9 Units.

Collectively, the members participated in various concentrated operations, vehicle checkpoints, secured escorts and intensive patrols around Gauteng.

Officers conducted a stop and search operation.

According to Warrant Officer Grant Giblin from the provincial SAPS, these efforts led to 30 arrests for serious crimes, including assault, burglary, theft, bribery, and murder.

Eight suspects were arrested for possession of 27 stolen and hijacked vehicles, while 42 suspects were arrested for possession of and dealing in drugs, including heroin, dagga, cocaine, mandrax, and crystal methamphetamine.
One was arrested for the possession of an unlicensed firearm.

Investigations are ongoing. The suspects will be appearing in the local magistrate’s courts across Gauteng.
