Kliptown community pay tribute to their own, Bob Theophilus Nameng
Bob, the founder of SKY Foundation dedicated his life to uplifting the youth of Kliptown, providing them with hope, education and empowerment.
The Soweto Kliptown Youth Foundation held a memorial service in honour of the late Bob Theophilus Nameng on April 24 at Kliptown Youth Program, Soweto.
The renowned community leader died at the age of 54.
Friends, family and the community gathered to celebrate his life as well as to reflect on his unwavering commitment to uplifting the community of Kliptown

Nameng was more than a community leader; he was a healer, a visionary, and a father to many.

Through SKY Foundation, he created a sanctuary for children, offering them the safety, guidance, and belief they needed to pursue their dreams.
His philosophy was rooted in Ubuntu, and his unwavering faith in the potential of marginalised youth transformed countless lives.

SKY foundation member Tshegofatso Mpshe described Nameng as someone who believed in uplifting people and giving them second chances.
“We have lost not only a father but a pillar of strength to the children and the community of Kliptown. He played a vital role in transforming and nurturing the youth, making sure that they strive to reach their dreams and goals,” said Mpshe.
Maria Malepa from Lebo Soweto Backpackers shared memories that she will remember.

“Nameng had a strong spiritual connection with us as an organisation and my family,” said Malepa.
“After losing my husband he played a huge role in supporting us. I will forever be grateful for the opportunity to have been part of his life.”
As a deeply spiritual man, Nameng embodied the words: “The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone.”
Molebogeng ‘Malebza The DJ’ Thekiso explained the role Nameng played in her life.

“He was a star in my life when I met him,” Thekiso added.
“I was on the verge of giving up on my dreams of becoming a DJ. He made me dream again and believe in myself. I am who I am today because of his teachings.”
