JMPD warns public about officers allegedly soliciting bribes
Members of the public who encounter or have experienced such situations are strongly encouraged to immediately report it to JMPD Anti-Fraud Corruption Hotline at 080 020 3712.
The JMPD has issued a public alert regarding reports of alleged unscrupulous behavior by certain officers.
According to JMPD, their Internal Affairs Unit is currently investigating numerous cases where officers are suspected of soliciting bribes from members of the public, with funds being transferred via eWallet or cash send to unknown or ‘ghost’ cellphone numbers.
JMPD chief of police Patrick Jaca said the JMPD will not tolerate any form of corruption within its ranks.

“These alleged actions are a betrayal of public trust and undermine the department’s commitment to serving the community with integrity.”
He said disciplinary action, including criminal prosecution, will be taken against officers who are found engaging in these corrupt activities.
He warned that offering bribes is a serious offense, punishable by law.
“Anyone attempting to bribe an officer will face arrest and the full consequences of the law. Furthermore, citizens are urged to report any instances of corruption to ensure a fair and just society.

“The JMPD takes these allegations extremely seriously and is committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity and professionalism therefore the public is urged to be vigilant and aware of this alleged practice,” said Jaca.
