Zama-zamas caught in Doornkop and firearms seized

The operations that were conducted across the district led to more than 400 arrests, with collaborations from multiple law enforcement agencies.

Over 400 suspects were arrested for various offenses, including possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, dealing in drugs and selling liquor without a license, during the crime prevention operations from March 28 to March 30.

Among the arrests, 68 were made during a multi-disciplinary Operation Shanela, 149 suspects were arrested during high-density and station commander’s operations, and 205 suspects were traced and arrested for serious and violent crimes, including gender-based violence.

Ten Mandrax tablets and 10 packets of crystal meth were confiscated.

During an illicit mining operation in Doornkop, eight illegal immigrants were arrested. Four suspects were arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition in Jeppe, Cleveland, and Eldorado Park.

In a separate incident in Cleveland, one suspect was arrested for impersonating police officers and possession of an unlicensed firearm, while another suspect was arrested for illegally discharging a firearm in a municipal area.

In Alexandra, one suspect was arrested for dealing in drugs, and the police confiscated 10 Mandrax tablets with a street value of R500 and 10 packets of crystal meth.

A pocket knife, firearm and ammunition were seized.

The operations were conducted across the district, with collaborations from multiple law enforcement agencies, including JMPD, Gauteng Traffic Wardens, Siyabangena patrollers, CPF, and private security companies.
The suspects will appear in various courts soon.
