Police swoop in on crime during high-impact operation in Orlando

Police make a major dent in Soweto crime with over 50 arrests in one-night operation.

More than 50 suspects were arrested in Orlando, Soweto on February 9 during a high-impact operation led by the Gauteng Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni, as part of Operation Shanela.

According to the police report, arrests were made for various crimes, including driving under the influence of alcohol, possession of drugs and illegal immigration.

Over 20 suspects were taken into custody for driving while intoxicated, while 30 others were arrested for various other crimes.
