Over 500 arrested in Johannesburg crime crackdown

A hijacked Nissan Magnite was also recovered in Diepkloof. Arrested suspects will appear in various magistrate’s courts.

Over 500 suspects were arrested for various crimes during operations throughout the Joburg District from June 13 to 17.

These operations included Operation Shanela, station commanders’ operations, high-density operations, and ad hock roadblocks.

The police, joined by other law enforcement agencies, apprehended about 117 suspects for various crimes, including possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, possession of drugs, house robbery, attempted murder, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, contravention of immigration laws, selling liquor without a license, and driving under the influence of liquor.

Officers also arrested another 64 suspects during station commanders’ operations conducted by various stations across the district.

During the operation around the Moroka policing precinct on June 16, the police arrested two suspects, aged 22 and 37, for business burglary and possession of suspected stolen property.

During the high-density operations, conducted by various stations across the district, officers arrested an additional 46 suspects.

The police also recovered a Nissan Magnite that had been hijacked in Meyerton.

The detectives traced and arrested about 242 suspects for various crimes, including contact crimes, contact-related crimes, property crimes, and other serious crimes.

The arrested suspects will appear at various magistrate’s courts soon.
