Eldorado Park couple face murder and rape charges after child’s death
A four-year-old girl from Eldorado Park has died in hospital, days after an alleged assault and near-drowning at the hands of her father.
Police have confirmed that a four-year-old girl from Extension 1, Eldorado Park, who was allegedly assaulted and nearly drowned by her father, died at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital on August 8.
The child had been in the ICU since August 6 before succumbing to her injuries.
Provincial SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo said the case docket has been updated to include a charge of murder, with an additional charge of rape added against the 32-year-old father.

The man was initially arrested on August 6 on charges of attempted murder and child abuse.
His partner, the child’s mother, was charged with defeating the ends of justice after an investigation by the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit.
Both suspects appeared in the Protea Magistrate’s Court on August 8, where the father applied for bail. The matter was postponed until August 12.
