SAPS Anti-Gang Unit arrests multiple suspects in Johannesburg crackdown

The SAPS Anti-Gang Unit wrapped up August with several arrests in Johannesburg, targeting gang-linked crimes, drugs, and illegal firearms.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) has reaffirmed its commitment to fighting gang-related crime, following a series of arrests in Johannesburg during the final week of August.

The operations, which spanned from August 24–30, led to multiple suspects being taken into custody for possession of drugs and illegal firearms.

On August 24, the AGU arrested a 23-year-old man in Riverlea after discovering an unlicensed firearm.

The weapon was later confirmed to have been stolen in Sasolburg in 2023.

Two days later, during patrols in Eldorado Park Ext 3, officers arrested a man carrying nine mandrax tablets and 19 knotted plastics of nyaope.

On the same day, a separate operation along September Street in Klipspruit led to the arrest of a 28-year-old man found with 13 mandrax tablets and six packets of crystal meth.

The momentum continued into the weekend. On August 30, a 44-year-old man was arrested in Moffatview after being found with a ziplock bag of crystal meth.
