Kliptown man sentenced to 20 years for armed robberies in Soweto

Fanyana Thomas Ngoyi (55) was sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment after being linked to a string of armed street robberies in Orlando East, thanks to a detailed investigation by Kliptown SAPS.

Fanyana Thomas Ngoyi (55) was sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment for his involvement in armed robberies.

He was arrested on August 7 when the Kliptown SAPS followed up on information about several armed street robberies in Orlando East, Soweto.

Upon arrival at the house, the police requested permission to search Ngoyi’s room. The officers found a firearm under Ngoyi’s bed, which led to his arrest.

After the tireless investigation by Sergeant Ellen Mampitla Mofokeng, the suspect was linked to several related crimes and was effectively convicted of armed robbery. Mofokeng also opposed bail and made sure that the accused remained in custody until his conviction.

Kliptown SAPS station commander Brigadier Lesley Lloyd said, “It is not pleasurable to take measures of imprisonment against the people. However, this act has saved many lives. The country has to work together for a better South Africa.’’

He further thanked Mofokeng for her outstanding performance, commitment, and unwavering fortitude in the stellar arrest and handling of the case docket.
