Family demands justice after Protea shooting claims young woman’s life
After being discovered with severe head injuries in an open field in Protea, Messina Moremi died in hospital.
The Moremi family is mourning the loss of their daughter, Messina Moremi, who died on November 15 after spending several days in the ICU at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital.
Messina was found in an open field in Protea on November 8, along with her friend, after the two had left together earlier that day.
Her friend was declared dead at the scene. Moremi, who had been shot twice in the head, was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

The suspect remains at large, and the family says they have not yet received updates from the police.
The family earlier told Urban News they were hopeful she would recover, describing Moremi as “a fighter”, despite doctors informing them of her critical condition.
They now say they want justice and hope the case will not “disappear” and that the perpetrator will be held accountable.
