Three suspects arrested after fatal Eldos garage shooting

Eldorado Park SAPS apprehends teens following a deadly gun attack at Astron Garage in Ext 5.

Eldorado Park SAPS arrested three suspects following a fatal shooting at a local petrol station in the early hours of February 29.

According to police, the incident occurred at the Astron Garage in Ext 5 at approximately 04:00. The victims had just purchased food when an argument allegedly broke out between them and another group of males at the garage.

The situation quickly escalated when one of the suspects allegedly drew a firearm and opened fire.

One victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body and died at the scene, while a second victim was shot in the leg.

Members of Eldorado Park SAPS, together with the JMPD Tactical Reaction Unit, launched a coordinated operation as part of the station’s 24-hour turnaround strategy.

CCTV footage from the garage was obtained and played a critical role in identifying the suspects.

Further investigations led officers to the firearm, which was found in the possession of a 17-year-old suspect.

Later that same afternoon, police tracked down and arrested the suspects.

The 18-year-old suspect is being held in the Eldorado Park SAPS holding cells, while the two minors have been placed at the Walter Sisulu Place of Safety.

Eldorado Park SAPS media liaison officer Sergeant Fezeka Khobo commended officers for their rapid response.

“Our members acted swiftly on the information received, utilising our 24-hour turnaround strategy to trace and apprehend the suspects within hours of the incident,” said Khobo.

She added that community cooperation remains vital in the fight against crime.
