No eviction without court order in Eldos

JMPD is taking a cautious approach to the land occupation in Eldorado Park, especially after the illegal eviction of October 23, which led to demonstrations against police brutality.

JMPD will not evict the illegal land invaders at Ext 6, Eldorado Park, until the Department of Human Settlements (DHS) obtains an eviction order.

The residents began occupying the land on November 1, demanding that government authorities address their housing needs.

According to JMPD media liaison officer Superintendent Xolani Fihla, the JMPD will continue to monitor the situation closely to ensure public order and safety within the affected area.

He said, given that the illegal occupants have already taken physical occupation of the land, the DHS is required to follow the prescribed legal process for evictions.

“The department must now apply for a formal court order to legally effect the eviction of the illegal land invaders,” he continued.

“JMPD’s role in this matter is to provide support and maintain public safety during any legally sanctioned operation, including the execution of a valid court order once obtained by the DHS.”
