Ward 130 residents raise concerns over load reduction and rising crime
Residents say prolonged load reduction is leaving communities vulnerable to crime, with councillor Siyabonga Zwane urging vigilance and the reporting of suspicious activity.
Residents of Ward 130, including Emndeni, have raised concerns about several service delivery challenges, with prolonged load reduction among the area’s biggest issues.
According to PR councillor Siyabonga Zwane, load reduction in the area often lasts up to five hours, leaving residents without electricity for extended periods.

Zwane claimed the prolonged outages have contributed to an increase in crime, alleging that criminals use the cover of darkness to rob residents, vandalise infrastructure and commit other offences.
He further alleged that a young man was recently attacked by unknown perpetrators during a period of load reduction, highlighting what he described as the safety risks faced by residents.
Zwane urged residents to remain vigilant during periods of load reduction, particularly at night, and to report any suspicious activity to the relevant authorities.
