“On March 15, the family received a call from an anonymous caller who demanded a ransom for the safe return of the 12-year-old.

“The police changed the charge to kidnapping and brought in a hostage negotiator as well as Organised Crime Investigation to assist in the investigation,” said Muridili.

She added that the team got a breakthrough following countless interviews that were conducted with witness leading to the rescue and safe return of Nemaungani.

Nemaungani has been reunited with his parents. He had no visible injuries but he was taken to hospital for medical attention.

The suspect will be charged with kidnapping and he will be appearing before the Protea Magistrate’s Court soon.
