Local Entrepreneur Wins Coveted Parmalat Phuma Phambili Competition

The 2023 winning outlet was awarded with the main prize which is equipment worth R25 000 which will contribute to the future growth of the business.

Marks Maudi of Marks Bunny Chow in Orlando East is the winner of the 2024 Parmalat Phuma Phambili Competition.

The prize was awarded to Maudi by Lactalis South Africa’s marketing team at a handover ceremony held in Orlando East on April 27.

Maudi started his business in 2007 and currently owns three outlets in Soweto and has employed 28 people.

“We thank Lactalis South Africa for allowing us to participate in the Parmalat Phuma Phambili competition and for allowing us to advertise our business. We are proud to win first prize and looking forward to expanding our business even further,” Maudi said.

The Phuma Phambili competition aims to promote and support entrepreneurs and small businesses in townships across the country through Parmalat which is one of Lactalis South Africa’s brands.

Small businesses are the economic heartbeat of South Africa and the informal market forms a huge part of this.

Over the past 10 years, more than ten thousand outlets took part in the Phuma Phambili campaign.

Edith Rakumakoe who is the Marketing Manager at Lactalis South Africa congratulated Marks Bunny Chow for being the number one selling outlet for the year 2024.

“We are passionate about supporting and partnering with businesses to motivate and help fuel the entrepreneurial spirit of business owners in informal sectors,” Rakumakoe added.

Z’khiphani Abadl’abantu fast food from Soweto and Madlula’s place from Umlazi Kwazulu-Natal received the runner-up prizes.

“Congratulations to the runner-up and all the participants for their participation in this competition. We are very impressed with the dedication of the participants this year and we look forward to seeing these small businesses grow in future,” Rakumakoe concluded.
