WARNING: Parents targeted for false enrolment at local school

Scammers are posing as representatives of the school solicit money on social media.

A social media scam is circulating in Soweto, targeting parents seeking enrolment for their children at Kiddies Hope Academy (KHA).

The local educational institution has warned residents to be cautious of scammers soliciting money on Facebook, posing as academy representatives.

According to Xolani Sithole, a representative from KHA, the scammers are requesting parents to deposit enrolment fees into bank accounts shared on Facebook.

However, these accounts are not affiliated with the academy.

“KHA does not conduct online registrations or request fees through Facebook,” Sithole emphasised.

“We have already filed a report with the Dobsonville Police Station against these scammers.”

Preliminary investigations revealed scammers used at least five different bank accounts to rob unsuspecting parents. The police launched an investigation into the matter.

Sithole warned these scams are common during enrollment periods when parents seek school placements.

“We urge anyone who has fallen victim to this scam to report it to the police,” he said.
