Boys and Girls Club South Africa is based all around Gauteng with the aim of helping children sharpen their skills and knowledge.
Girls and Boys Club South Africa in Pimville Zone 2 hosted an event where the learners showcased what they have been learning throughout the year.
Those who participated in sports also received awards.
The club is not only based on recreational activities. Children also go to the centre to get help with their homework and school projects.

Centre manager Lethabo Motsodisa said the club is for the children in the community to have an after-school programme where they can do their homework.

“We cater for children during unsupervised hours after school.
“We have a programme, the power hour, where we assist the children with their schoolwork. We then give them nutritious meals, and then there are extra murals after that.”
Motsodisa added they have five core areas of focus – education and career programmes, STEM which is IT-based programmes, arts and culture, sports and fitness and leadership programmes.
The learners played the marimba and performed different dances and songs. Soccer and netball players received awards.

A parent said her child joined the club three years ago and she has seen a great improvement in her mathematics and social skills.
“My child was shy and kept to herself and I believed she could not reach her full potential. The club has helped her to socialise with children her age.”
She added that the Girls and Boys Club is helping the community in keeping children off the streets and away from the social ills like drugs.
