Local artist tells how loneliness led to music

JP Cooper releases emotional new single Talking To Strangers ahead of forthcoming album.

Singer-songwriter JP Cooper has announced the release of his latest single, Talking To Strangers, a heartfelt and introspective track that explores themes of loneliness and disconnection.

The song, which dropped on January 17 via Island Records, is the third single to be taken from Cooper’s forthcoming third album, due for release this summer. Produced by Cameron Blackwood including George Ezra, Tom Walker, Talking To Strangers features Cooper’s soulful vocals and poignant lyrics, which he penned during a solo trip to Los Angeles.

Cooper reveals that the song was inspired by his experiences of feeling isolated and disconnected from loved ones while travelling.

“I wrote the song feeling the loneliness amplified by the time difference from home,” he explained.

“I would sit at the bar, sink too many beers, and make small talk with the bar staff. One morning, after one of those nights, I arrived at the studio hungover and miserable and sat at the piano.”

The album, which was recorded in both the UK and South Africa, promises to be a deeply personal and introspective work, with Cooper drawing on his experiences of love, loss, and self-discovery.

Cooper’s debut album Raised Under Grey Skies has sold over 1 million copies and includes the hit single September Song, which has racked up over 600 million global streams.
