CoJ Speaker donates 100 school shoes
The Speaker of council kicked off the second leg of a back-to-school donation drive at Lion Park Primary School in Region A.
The City of Johannesburg speaker of council, Nobuhle Mthembu, visited Lion Park Primary School as part of her office’s Back to School campaign on February 3.
She donated 100 pairs of school shoes to learners, thanks to a contribution from Glenryck SA, a division of Pioneer Fishing, a key partner in the initiative.
The campaign, launched last month, aims to visit all seven of the city’s regions, providing motivation and much-needed support to learners, particularly those needing school shoes.

“We are here to encourage our children and wish them well for the new academic year.
“Many face difficult challenges, and we want to inspire them to stay in school and never give up on their dreams,” said Mthembu.
Lion Park Primary School serves learners from nearby informal settlements, where many families struggle to afford basic school essentials. The donation will help restore the learners’ confidence and sense of dignity.
“Every child deserves to feel equal to their peers, regardless of their background. These new school shoes will help them walk into their classrooms with pride and a sense of ownership of items they can call their own,” Mthembu added.
Sakkie Luther, the sales and marketing executive at Glenryck SA, stressed the company’s commitment to supporting education and community development through its partnership with the office of the Speaker.

“As Glenryck SA, we are proud to contribute to the future of these young learners.
“Education is the golden key that unlocks opportunities, and we believe that by working together with government, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of our youth,” said Luther.

He added that the collaboration between the private sector and government showcases how partnerships can drive positive change in communities that desperately need it.
The campaign will continue across the city, ensuring more learners receive encouragement and support as they embark on their academic journey for the year.
