Suspect killed, two in hospital and more arrested during shootout with police

The alleged suspects are wanted for several ATM bombings and other serious crimes in Gauteng and neighboring provinces.

An armed suspect was fatally wounded, two were hospitalised and two were arrested during a shootout with the police in Lenasia on March 13.

Five suspects are still on the run.

A crime intelligence operation led by the SAPS, together with other multi-disciplinary forces, including the SAPS Tactical Response Unit and JMPD, received information of a planned ATM bombing by a crime syndicate, which included the most wanted dangerous criminal in the province.

The suspects are wanted for several ATM bombings and other serious crimes in Gauteng and neighbouring provinces.

Deputy national commissioner for crime detection, Lieutenant General Shadrack Sibiya, commended all those involved for their bravery in responding to and ultimately foiling the planned ATM bombing in Protea South.

“Collaborating between law enforcement and relevant stakeholders such as private security plays a significant role in preventing and combating serious and violent crime in the country,” said Sibiya.
