Police bust man for unlicensed AK47

Upon searching him, they recovered an AK47 loaded with 26 live rounds inside his bag and arrested and detained him.

A man (32) will appear at the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court today, facing a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

On April 1 at about 13:00, Crime Prevention Unit members from Johannesburg Central were on patrol when they received a tip-off about a suspicious man walking on a street in the CBD.

The officers swiftly went to the identified street and found the mentioned person.

Upon searching him, they recovered an AK47 loaded with 26 live rounds inside his bag and arrested and detained him.

Police investigations continue.

Acting district commissioner Brigadier Koena Moichela thanked the dedicated and vigilant police and the community members for their good working relationship with the SAPS.

He encouraged them to keep reporting criminal activities by phoning their nearest police station or via the MySAPS App to provide tip-offs anonymously.
