Pimville school welcomes furniture donation
A high school received a donation of 200 chairs and 550 desks from the Gauteng provincial legislature.
For learners to have a conducive learning environment, the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Johannesburg and the Gauteng Provincial Legislature (GPL) handed a furniture donation to Progress Comprehensive High School in Pimville on May 12.
The handover brought together community members, legislature representatives, teachers and pupils.

This act of goodwill aims to transform the learners’ learning experience, who will no longer sit on broken chairs or without desks. The teachers are now better supported to educate, uplift and inspire.

Speaker of the legislature, Morakane Mosupyoe, reaffirmed the shared value between SA and China – education.
She also gave students words of wisdom. “Education is the cornerstone of development. As the GPL, we are committed to ensuring every child has access to a quality, dignified learning environment, no matter where they are born or raised.
“To the learners of Progress High, may this donation remind you that the world is watching and willing to invest in your potential,” she said.
Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Johannesburg Pan Qingjiang said, “This donation is a token of support for education in the community from the consulate. Most importantly, it reflects our consistent, strong and common commitment and dedication.”

School principal Caroline Monageng said, “I acknowledge the trinity of God.
“It is with gratitude that our requests are heard. We’ve struggled for so long to a point where bullying was starting among the learners because they would fight for chairs and tables.
“Some even sat on the floor, so I am grateful because the new furniture will allow effective classroom management,” she said.
