Winnie Radebe Foundation donates clothing to support Embuzini informal settlement
The donation, supported by Ackermans and the public, will be distributed to families through local caregivers, offering hope and dignity in one of Johannesburg’s most underserved communities.
The Winnie Radebe Foundation (NPO) made a generous donation of clothes to the Uzima Centre in Embuzini, Orlando East, on May 29.
The informal settlement is known for its challenging living conditions, and many residents struggle with unemployment.
The donation included both new and used clothing for people of all ages — from newborns to the elderly — and aims to bring some relief to the community.

Caregivers from the Uzima Centre will conduct home visits to distribute the clothes to those in need.
Carol Dyantyi, founder of Uzima Centre, said: “The living conditions in Embuzini are not good. We try to change the way they look at life and instill hope.
“Living in such surroundings can make children lose hope, so we are here to meet their urgent needs, like the clothes donation.”
The Winnie Radebe Foundation received clothes from Ackermans, and additional donations came from members of the public.

Winnie Radebe, chairperson of the foundation, said: “The little we brought here will make a difference in the community. If we have more in the future, we will return to help again.
“They also donated sanitary pads for us to distribute to schools. We need to work hand in hand to support those in need.”

Eva Diketane, a social worker from the foundation, added: “We’ve seen that many people in this community are unemployed. Although we face funding challenges, we’ll continue donating whatever we can.”
