SAPS-led operation targets cable theft, arrests suspects in Mondeor

The crackdown targeted economic infrastructure crimes, resulting in firearm seizures and the arrest of undocumented individuals.

During an integrated economic infrastructure operation held around the Mondeor policing precinct from May 20 to 30, eight suspects were arrested.

They will soon appear at the Booysens Magistrate’s Court.

The operation was a joint effort between the SAPS, PRASA, and private security companies, aiming to address the scourge of economic infrastructure-related crimes in the area.

During the operation, two suspects were arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Six undocumented persons were also apprehended.

The police seized two pistols, 22 shotgun rounds, 54 rifle rounds, 11 pistol rounds, one penduka and two generators.

The Johannesburg district commissioner, Major General Nonhlanhla Kubheka, commended the members and other law enforcement agencies for their ongoing efforts to intensify operations aimed at combating crimes related to essential infrastructure and removing illegal firearms from the streets.

She also encouraged the community to provide the police with information or tip-offs related to the theft of cables and essential infrastructure.
