WATCH: Wind complicates response to Southgate depot fire
Depot workers were evacuated as part of an emergency drill, while the cause of the fire remains unknown.
A fire broke out at the SAB Baragwanath Depot near Southgate on Wednesday afternoon, prompting an urgent response from firefighters and security services.
According to Vision Tactical, which is assisting at the scene, strong winds are making containment efforts difficult.
“Strong winds are causing the fire at SAB Baragwanath Depot to spread rapidly. Our teams remain on the scene assisting with containment and safety, while additional resources are en route,” Vision Tactical said in a statement.
Emergency crews continue to battle the blaze.
Workers at the depot were instructed to wait outside as part of a fire drill. At this stage, the cause of the fire remains unknown.
