Their survivor-driven approach focuses on dispelling myths, breaking down stigmas and empowering people with accurate information.
Through campaigns and personal stories, the NPO celebrates life, inspires hope and encourages proactive healthcare engagement in the fight against cancer.
“We’ve been around for 14 years, and our biggest aim is to create awareness and educate our communities about cancer as a treatable disease,” said Marlene Nortje, the CEO of Cancervive.
“We want people to know there is life – a beautiful life – after cancer. Our team includes survivors, and we want to show that cancer has no race or age.”
Soweto resident Bobo Nkosi, diagnosed with colon cancer in 2024, shared his journey.
“This is something people don’t usually talk about, especially in black communities,” said Nkosi.

“I met Cancervive, and through them, I’ve learnt that cancer is not a death sentence. I encourage everyone to get checked and visit a doctor or clinic.”
Suzuki’s Sergeant Selley said the company recognised the value of the NPO’s work and the necessity of providing cars to reduce their travel stress during campaigns.
Community members came out in numbers to learn and compete for prizes.
