Petersport FC crowned ELFA Seniors champions after thrilling shootout win
Fans were treated to a gripping final as Petersport FC defeated Boca Juniors on penalties to secure the 2025 ELFA Seniors Closing Tournament crown at EXT 6.
Petersport FC clinched another trophy following their victory against Boca Juniors FC during the Eldorado Local Football Association (ELFA) Seniors Closing Tournament, at EXT 6 Soccer Field on July 6.
They won the postseason tourney on penalties, scoring 5 – 3 after they played to a 1–1 draw.
Boca’s striker Kamogelo Lekalakala scored the opening goal in the first half, but unfortunately, they could not hold on to the lead for long. Lehlogonolo Monareng capitalised on the goalkeeper’s mistake and equalised.

Boca FC coach Adrian Duiker said he was proud of his players’ efforts despite narrowly missing out on silverware.
“I feel good about how far the boys came. They fought hard and showed great character. We created many opportunities, but unfortunately, it came down to penalties,” Duiker said.
He said that the tournament is vital for preparations ahead of the new session, and hopefully, one that will see them get promoted.
“It is important for us to assess where we are as a team. If we win the league next season and get promoted to the Hollywoodbets division, we need to know we are ready. I believe we are, but there is still work to be done.”
Duiker praised his players for sticking to their style of play despite a physical encounter against Petersport.
“I told the boys we do not play dirty football, we play the ball and play it well. We knew it would be a physical match, and they handled it with discipline.”
Looking ahead, Duiker confirmed he is focused on strengthening the squad for the new season.
“We will be bringing in a few players, especially a central defender and an additional striker.
“Our defence was solid; we had one of the best records in the league with the fewest goals scored against us. But we still need depth if we are going to push for promotion.”

Petersport coach Paballo Peter Rapetsoa said he was proud of his team’s performance; however, he noted that they kept struggling, but fortunately, they did well in the penalty shootout.
“We had opportunities to win the game in regular time, but their goalkeeper kept us out. He was brilliant,” Rapetsoa said.
Rapetsoa admitted that injuries were a setback in the final because they could not field two key midfielders.
“We played to our strengths, using our width and relying on our striker’s physicality. We moved the ball quickly from the back to the wings and forward. We went with a 3-5-2 formation.”
Looking ahead, he said the team expects to compete in the regional league starting around September, with trials planned for 19 July.
“We will be looking to bring in fresh talent to strengthen the squad for the step up to regional competition.”
He acknowledged that funding remains a challenge as the club moves forward.
The club recently won the ELFA Super League and has been promoted to compete in Hollywoodbets Regional League.

This means they have to travel across Johannesburg regularly to play away games.
“We are trying to secure sponsorships. Travel expenses will increase. Though we get help from parents and community members, it is not easy.”
He expressed gratitude to 60 to 70% of parents who actively support the team in one way or another.
He further encouraged full participation: “Even if it is just showing up and cheering from the sidelines.”
