Family collects spirit of slain e-hailing driver at Maponya Mall

The family of Mthokozisi Mvelase visited Maponya Mall, where he was brutally slain, to collect his spirit before returning home for his burial.

The family of slain e-hailing driver Mthokozisi Mvelase has finally been able to pay their respects by retrieving his spirit at the scene of his death at Maponya Mall on 5 September, following weeks of waiting for DNA confirmation.

Mvelase was shot and killed inside his car before it was set alight on August 13, in what is believed to have been a taxi-violence-related attack.

Authorities maintain calm and safety while the community pays its last respects.

The brutal killing shocked the community, leaving residents and fellow e-hailing drivers living in fear.
Mvelase will be laid to rest at his home in Hlungwane, Ulundi, KwaZulu-Natal, on September 6.
