Eldorado Park and Soweto schools prepare for robotics competition and tech launch

Schools across Gauteng are invited to register for the Eldos Robotics CRT tournament, set to take place at Don Mateman Hall.

The Eldos Chess, Robotics and Coding Club will host an exclusive launch of its new robotics kit, the robot buggy, along with a CRT tournament for schools on October 25 at Don Mateman Hall in Eldorado Park.

At the event, the club will also announce plans to merge with United Siyafunda, a Soweto-based social enterprise NPC that assists under-resourced schools and communities in accessing STEAM education and EdTech resources.

According to Eldos Robotics founder, Alicia McPherson, the tournament will feature 20 schools from across Gauteng, including six from Eldorado Park, four from Soweto, and others from Brakpan.

A buggy is a robot that moves around on wheels, often used in robotics competitions or projects to develop programming and engineering skills.

Schools still have time to register for the competition before the closing date of September 30. Registered schools will also participate in a mini tournament during the launch as an introduction to the event and preparation for the national tournament in 2026.

McPherson said the winners will receive 10 robotics kits as well as one year of support for their school’s robotics programme. She added that special surprises will also be revealed at the launch.
