Woman fatally struck by a taxi in Freedom Park

The woman was crossing Jan De Neker Drive when the driver tried to reverse and accidentally struck her.

A taxi struck and killed a woman (60) on Jan De Necker Drive in Freedom Park on October 26.

According to reports, the woman was crossing the road when the driver of a Toyota Quantum tried to reverse and accidentally hit her.

Community members, alerted by the loud impact, rushed to the scene and found the woman trapped under the vehicle. They tried to push the taxi aside to free her, but she was declared dead at the scene.

The taxi driver allegedly fled on foot, abandoning the vehicle. The police arrived shortly after the incident and have opened a case of culpable homicide.

Authorities are appealing to anyone with information about the driver’s whereabouts or details that could assist the investigation to contact the SAPS.
